Oct 1, 2025, I went to the Chipotle in Menifee, CA. I asked the server if there was something I could get for $4, and she said a side of rice; I declined.

As I was leaving, a customer called out to me and offered to buy me a meal. I was very touched by the kindness and accepted. The server, a rather large female, clearly had an issue with me getting a free meal and was rude to me. She drenched my meal with sour cream—four scoops on a small bowl—and skimped on other items.

When she was done, she put my meal behind the window as if to wait for the other customers to check out. She knew I was not paying. I finally had enough and reached behind the glass and got my bowl. She was openly snarling at me.

I wrote to Chipotle and told them their employee took a beautiful act of kindness and made the situation ugly. She had no loss from the situation; she is just an angry, miserable person. I asked for my meal to be replaced because all you could taste was sour cream; I didn't eat it. There were a total of three messages that were generated by a bot.

It requested my receipt; if they had read what I wrote, they wouldn't have asked—I didn't buy it.

In the end, Chipotle refused to replace my bowl. This was principle, not about the money.

User's recommendation: The food is good when you don't have a miserable server.

Preferred solution: My bowl replaced.

You ask for a meal replacement in real-time, in person, before you consume the initial meal. You do not stay silent only to write an email later.

And no, you do not “reach” for food that was not yet paid for. Have some dignity and self-respect and order rice next time.
